Connor Dillman is an artist from Los Angeles based in London with a practice centered around painting but inclusive of writing and podcasting.
Private, everyday moments of quiet observation inform his works characterized by their meditative stillness and visually concise compositions—they are grounded in perceptual sensitivity, concerned with articulating specific, discrete instances of intense presence.
But while his subject matter is rooted in firsthand experience, his process is a structure for material investigation; his considered approach to constructing images with thin layers of watercolor, pencil, and oil on wood panel raises questions around the relationship between painting and drawing, prioritizing formal tensions over pictorial resolution.
Extending his reflective sensibility into collaborative dialogue, Connor hosts People Painting, a podcast of conversations with early career painters. The project mirrors his paintings’ interest in creating space for contemplation, acting as an open-source archive for his artistic community.
He has recently shown with Outhouse Gallery and MokSpace in London, as well as Projects Kavel Rafferty in Margate. He holds a BA in English Literature from Emory University and an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art.
